Finding beauty in unexpected places
HELLO, AND WELCOME!
I’m Angela, a painter born and living in Manchester. I’m inspired by my environment, and beauty in unexpected places. I love wild landscapes (I’m currently working on a series of landscapes inspired by photographs I’ve taken from train windows), weathered surfaces, the patterns of bare branches.
My paintings usually have many layers. I’m fascinated by the idea of ‘things beneath the surface’; I think having history and secrets makes a painting more interesting (same with people!)
I work in acrylics but often add other media such as oil pastel, ink, pencil and occasionally scraps of vintage paper as collage. I create on canvas, paper and wood, and unusual surfaces appeal to me; I have an ongoing series of miniature trees which are painted on up-cycled wooden game pieces.
My work has found homes worldwide and has been shown by several UK galleries, including Highgate Contemporary Art, Cupola Gallery in Sheffield, Bury Art Gallery, and Platform Gallery in Clitheroe. I have also had several mixed media art tutorials published in a UK craft magazine.
I welcome enquiries about commissions or other opportunities, and am happy to answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to get in touch!
